Book Repair Workshop

Book Repair Workshop

I’d like to extend a big “thank you” to Dr. Barbara Ray who invited the library staff to attend her LIBM 5213 class (Advanced Administration for Library Media Centers) a couple of weeks ago for a free “hands-on” book repair workshop.

Kary Barth, the representative from Kapco Book Protection, provided a most informative demonstration and had us mending books like professionals in no time at all.  We covered a lot of ground in a short period of time.  Some of the useful skills we learned: how to repair damaged book corners, how to repair damaged magazines/newsletters, and how to repair broken book spines.  We also learned how to “tip-in” torn out pages and how to reinforce paperback book covers.

And to make it even better, Kapco provided each attendee with free sample repair materials to take away.  What a deal!
